Quality Manager

Position summary: 

The Quality Manager will be responsible for the development, modification, application, and maintenance of quality standards and evaluation methods for products and processes to ensure the meeting or exceeding of quality specifications and standards of ISO and ASTM. The individual will provide diverse and complex statistical information for quality improvement by determining and applying testing methods and criteria. Other responsibilities include; guidance on technical evaluations, analysis, and related data acquisition processes to ensure quality objectives are achieved. 

Job responsibilites: 
  • Assessment of quality performance (or cost-of-quality) using statistical and analytical methods.
  • Development and establishment of advanced quality systems and procedures, inspection plans, and quality performance trends for in-process and finished products
  • Assess the cost of, and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Identify quality performance, trends and corrective action by coordinating with customers and suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance to specified quality requirements by performing in-house and supplier audits and surveys.
  • Develop and initiate programs to monitor and improve supplier performance.
  • Design or specify inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment, and conduct quality assurance tests. 
  • Refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to areas of production.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports by collecting, interpreting, analyzing, and summarizing data and making recommendations.
  • Compile and write training material and conduct training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Develop and lead cross-functional teams to address and resolve quality issues, to improve levels of quality and productivity and to participate in related activities, failure analysis and corrective action investigations.
  • Represent the company by interfacing with customers and regulatory agencies and assisting with internal and external audits.
  • Develop and coordinate corrective action procedures and plans.
  • Lead Quality team in organizational transformations and employee development initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality and safety regulations.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  • Participate on the management team to establish current and long-range objectives, plans, and policies for the plant.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Engineering or a Quality related technical discipline required and Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 5+ years of related experience OR Technical Associate Degree and 10+ years quality related work experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art inspection and quality engineering/assurance techniques, procedures, instruments, equipment, theories, principles and concepts; and general business operations.
  • Experience with statistical methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to significant inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, suppliers, or members of the business community.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve a wide range of difficult problems and review internal and suppliers’ root cause/corrective actions.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Must possess understanding of ISO 9001 standards. ISO Internal Auditor Certification preferred
  • Certification as a Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) through the American Society for Quality (ASQ) desired.
  • Basic understanding of Metallurgical Science and related laboratory testing procedures desired.

Due to current and future business strategies and markets, the preference would be a candidate with automotive experience, specifically as it relates to the implementation and certification of IATF 16949:2016.  The ideal candidate would have a strong background in metals with emphasis in steel.  A background in aspects of electrical circuitry and fundamental electrical properties would also be preferred.  The candidate must have an extensive background in quality processes and skills gained through both qualified training/classes and work experience.
