Copperweld® THHN/THWN-2 Conductors

Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) building wire for conduit and cable tray applications

Conductors built for today’s construction demands

Copperweld® THHN/THWN-2 Cable helps teams manage cost, improve installation workflow, and deliver efficient electrical performance across a wide range of electrical applications.

Across commercial, industrial, and residential projects, electrical systems require building wire that performs reliably across different applications and installation conditions. Copperweld® THHN/THWN-2 conductors are designed to support these demands with a versatile construction suitable for use in conduit, cable trays, and other standard wiring methods. Its bimetallic design helps reduce exposure to copper price volatility, minimize theft-related disruptions, and deliver efficient electrical performance when sized per NEC requirements, while its lightweight, flexible construction supports consistent handling and installation across varied jobsite conditions.

Features and Benefits:

Versatile Application – Suitable for use in conduit, cable trays, and other standard wiring methods, supporting consistent performance across varied applications.
Cost Stability – Copperweld’s bimetallic construction helps reduce exposure to copper price volatility, supporting more predictable project budgeting.
Efficient Electrical Performance – When sized per NEC requirements, Copperweld CCA provides lower resistance and improved efficiency compared to equivalently rated alternatives.
Improved Installation Workflow – Lightweight construction and flexible design make handling, routing, and pulling cable easier across complex layouts and long runs.
Reduced Theft Incentives – The lower scrap value of Copperweld CCA building wire helps reduce theft incentives compared to solid copper conductors, helping limit installation delays on active job sites.
Familiar Installation Practices – Installs and terminates similarly to traditional building wire, supporting fast adoption without changes to standard methods.
Code-Listed Construction – UL listed and compliant with applicable NEC requirements for use in a wide range of Metal-Clad cable applications.

Construction

  • Conductors – UL recognized component (DVVV2); solid or stranded annealed Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) bimetallic conductor meeting ASTM B566 with an 8000-series aluminum core
  • Insulation – Color-coded Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) meeting the required thickness of Type THHN/THWN-2
  • Jacket – Heat-stabilized nylon jacket

Identification and Applications

  • Identification: Copperweld® THHN/THWN-2 wire is identified for use with wiring devices, splice connectors and equipment terminals rated for CC, Cu, Cu/Al and CO/ALR. Copperweld® Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) is not dissimilar metallurgically to copper, brass or zinc-plated steel. Copperweld® CCA is dissimilar to aluminum for making electrical connections. If splicing with twist-on splice connectors, pre-twisting is not required. Copperweld® THHN/THWN-2 wire is made with ASTM B-566 Copper-Clad Aluminum bare conductor, which carries its own component listing, DVVV2, which is an NEC requirement.
  • Applications: Refer to Article 310 of the NEC.
